Did you plan your magazine? If not, what have you learnt about the importance of research and planning?
I did not plan my magazine for the prelim task, however I did look at existing school magazines that students had made to get some ideas of how I was going to form the layout and the kind of things I wanted to include.
What technology did you use to complete the task and how did you use it?
I used the software 'Serif publications'. I used this to design my cover page and contents page. This software allowed me to play around with different effects and techniques on the fonts and the pictures.
Did you encounter any difficulties? If so, what were they and how did you overcome them?
At first, I found it quite hard getting used to the software and working out how to operate it and what did what. However, I overcome this by asking someone for help on what each different element did and they just gave me a basic understanding of how Serif works and how to operate it. . I also found it hard to choose an overall colour scheme and house style because I didn't know whether I wanted to make the magazine formal and direct or appeal to the younger audiences (the students).
How successful was your magazine? Please identify what worked well, and with hindsight, what would you improve/do differently?
I think that my magazine was quite successful because it identifies as a formal, school magazine. I think what went well was the cutting out of my main image on the front cover and how the colours all work well together and how I have used the colour of the tie the teacher is wearing on the front cover for the text and some other features. However I think it could be improved in several ways. One being that I think the lack of knowledge on using different effects and not knowing the software really showed in regards to how basic the technology skill is. In the future of this coursework task, I would make sure that I have learned more about how to use Serif and what good effects I can use to make my magazine look like a proper magazine. This has taught me to not just be settle with the first draft that I do but instead use different software like photo editing to try out new things that could improve it.
